4 Tips for a Brighter Complexion

Some of us are born with naturally radiant skin, while most of us need to put in a little effort to get there.
*Cleanse daily- This helps avoid the buildup of dirt and debris, and allows skin to breathe.
*Exfoliate- Dead skin cells can’t glow which is why it’s important to exfoliate on a regular basis to ensure your skin keeps showing its best side.
*Vitamin C- Adding vitamin C serum to your beauty routine will optimize your skins ability to regenerate which reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
*Mineral makeup is the best choice for those looking to allow their brighter complexion to show through.

Skincare in your 20’s

Our skin is always changing, so what works for you as a teen, might not work as well once you’re in your 30’s. Effective skin care is all about targeting the key areas for your age range. Today we’re discussing skin care for those in their 20’s.

When you’re in your 20’s skincare is all about prevention. Developing a good skin care routine now is a great way to set yourself up for future success. Your youthful skin will be a wonderful reward!

*Cleanse skin thoroughly twice daily with a cleanser and tonic for your skin type. Clean skin is the best way to avoid breakouts and will help prevent large pores.

*Exfoliation is the best way to keep your skin cells turning over on a regular basis. Use a physical exfoliating product like a scrub to remove debris and dead skin cells.

*A healthy diet is a key component to good glowing skin. Drinking plenty of water, and eating your fruits and veggies will supply your body with the nutrients it needs to perform at its best.

*It seems like a given, but ensure you’re practicing good sunscreen application to prevent the sun from damaging your skin and setting the stage for wrinkles.

Natural Ways to Fight Bad Breath

Your skin is glowing, makeup is set, and hair is perfectly flowing. But if your breath is bad, it’s enough to throw you off. That morning cup of coffee is enough to get anyone after all!

Since you may not be prepared with a spare toothbrush or mouthwash on the go, we’ve rounded up a few tips for you.

Luckily, there are several ways to naturally fight bad breath. Keeping your mouth hydrated is the #1 tip. So taking an occasional sip of water is working double duty for you- keeping you nice and hydrated to boot!

A few herbs, like basil and ginger are noted for their breath balancing qualities. Eating raw ginger or a no-sugar chew, or chewing a few leaves of basil are the most effective methods of banishing bad breath.

Biotin for better skin

Many of us take a multivitamin to give a boost to our bodies, so why not our skin too? Biotin is one vitamin that really packs a punch when it comes to skincare. Aside from helping you achieve the glowing skin you’ve always dreamed of, biotin will improve your hair and nails too. Biotin works in the body to repair dry skin by regulating the way your body metabolizes fatty acids. Eating your way to healthy skin is always a great way to get these vitamins rather than take a supplement. You’ll get biotin by eating almonds, walnuts, romaine lettuce, carrots, eggs, berries & fruit, and halibut fish.

Fixing broken face powder

3.     It’s always so sad to drop a compact of foundation, blush, or other face powder and see your makeup all crushed and un-useable. All is not lost, however! We’ve rounded up four easy steps for powder repair that you can accomplish at home.

Depending on how badly your powder is broken, you may need to break up any remaining solid pieces. All of your pressed powder needs to be loose powder before you begin. A mascara tube or butter knife can help you with this.

*Add some rubbing alcohol to the loose powder to create a paste. Add the alcohol slowly. You want enough so that all the powder is covered, but don’t want to add too much!

* Just let it dry. The alcohol will evaporate if left overnight with the lid open, leaving you with a pressed solid.

*After the powder is dry, you might want to clean up the edges of the pan.
If so, simply use a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol to tidy things up.

Benefits of body brushing

Our skin renews itself on average every 28 days, however this process does slow down as you age. When dead skin cells build up, they make your skin look dry and dull, and feel rough.

Body brushing is a good way to help your skin renew itself naturally and easily. Regular body brushing gives skin a polished finish and improves circulation. The improved circulation is said to decrease cellulite.

The best time to body brush is right before your shower. Use a soft bristled brush and work all over body (avoid face and neck) using long sweeping motions that always move toward your heart. Finish with a warm shower and moisturizer afterwards.

Wash your brush in warm soapy water once a month to clean it.

Skin care tips for teens

Our skin is often not at it’s best during our teens. It can be a rough period of time while your skin transitions due to all the changing hormones.
Establish a routine. Washing your face regularly is just as important as brushing your teeth. So incorporate it into both the morning and evening routines. Teens should look for products that are formulated to tackle oiliness and breakouts.
Exfoliate Regularly. Two to three times a week is best. Exfoliating helps remove dirt and debris while smoothing the texture of the skin.
Watch what you eat. Avoid processed sugars and excessive amounts of dairy as both have been proven to increase breakouts. Drink plenty of water to keep skin hydrated. A zinc supplement can aid the skin in healing.

Trend Alert- Full Lashes

Full lashes haven’t always been the trend in runway fashion, at least in recent history. Until now. A more natural look seems to be favored, when paired with the full lashes it’s quite the statement. Try offsetting them with white liner and nails for a 70’s Twiggy inspired feel.
We offer lash tinting treatments to give your lashes a fuller or darker look for $25

A great red lipstick. It’s essential to every woman’s beauty bag, because red lipstick is the little black dress of the makeup world.
A red lipstick helps you instantly feel polished and chic, perhaps a bit sexy? It makes a powerful statement on its own, yet looks great with both a natural makeup look or dressed up with smokey eyes making it fun and versatile as well.

Beauty Myth: De-Bunked

Fear no more! Crossing your legs isn’t all that likely to cause varicose veins (spider veins) as we once thought. Unfortunately, it IS one of those things that runs in the family. Varicose veins can also be caused by standing for long periods of time. When you’re standing, the vascular network has to work extra hard to pump blood from the legs to the heart. If the valves begin to function improperly, blood can pool causing these darker veins. Spider veins are sometimes caused by added pressure during pregnancy or a local trauma like getting hit with a car door.

Cleaning your makeup brushes:

The tools you use to apply your makeup make quite a bit of difference in the final look. That’s why keeping your makeup brushes clean is so important! Luckily, this is an easy task to accomplish at home simply by gathering a few items you’ll already have.
To create: Mix 1 TBS of olive oil with 1 TBS of shampoo. The olive oil conditions the bristles while the shampoo cleans.

Clean it: Dip your brush into the solution and use your fingers to massage it through the bristles. Take your time on this step to ensure you get to all the makeup worked in. Avoid submerging the bristles completely as they’re glued to the base of the brush and you don’t want to loosen the glue.

Finish Up: Rinse brush under running water. Blot your brushes with a paper towel or washcloth. If a lot of residue comes out, rinse and repeat. Otherwise, let them dry overnight.

Eating healthy and good skin

Juicing for Health
What you eat matters. We all know that.  But you might not realize how direct of an effect what you eat, has on your skin. Often after the holidays or a stressful time in our life, our skin reacts negatively as if to pull your old habits back in line.

Make-up Tips for eyeliner application

The biggest tip for doing your own cat eyeliner is to have two mirrors: your bathroom mirror and a smaller hand mirror. This way you can look down into the smaller mirror when you're drawing on the liner, and double-check the balance and symmetry by looking into a bathroom mirror from a distance.

Skin vs Food

Want to change your skin? Change your diet. Eliminating dairy, caffeine, peanuts, seaweed, sugar, and soy can lead to clearer skin. Swap almond milk for cow milk, bid adieu to brie, and choose water over soda. Good-for-your-skin foods include salmon, dark leafy greens like kale, and antioxidant-rich green tea. Give it a month, and see what happens.
