Beauty rules you need to break

Beauty rules you need to break

When it comes to beauty and creating that flawless look, there seems to be a strict rulebook that has outlasted the years, with only subtle changes and adaptations as trends have evolved. While we admit that some old wives tales have proven to come out with the goods (honey really does have healing properties!), there are some that are complete and utter nonsense.
Keep washing your hair until its ‘squeaky clean’
If you’re lathering shampoo onto your scalp until it literally squeaks, your hair isn’t any cleaner than if you had of only lathered once. Instead, you have stripped away the natural oils that keep hair your looking healthy and happy.
Redheads can’t wear lipstick
Two words to prove this wrong: Emma Stone. Although currently a blonde, she rocked the red carpet countless times with a fiery hair-do and lippy to match. The trick here is choosing the right shade to compliment your complexion.
For shinier locks, run a brush through your hair 100 times each night
It’s time to ditch this nightly ritual as it’s only doing damage to your hair. Too much brushing leads to the breakage of hair follicles and should only be done for styling or detangling when needed.
Your painted nails and toes must match
While the matched look can give a great edge, complementary shades on your fingers and toes can be super chic and avoids the risk of being too “matchy”. For example, embrace the metallic trend by painting gold on your hands and a rose-gold or silver on your toes.

You can’t show your roots
The balayage and ombre hair trends that took the beauty world by storm over the past few seasons have proven that this rule was made to be broken. It is, however, a tricky trend to master, but when done right (blending the roots and the ends with mixed tones), it can give some much-needed depth to your hair.
You can’t do a statement eye and lip at the same time
While there can be nothing more chic than a simple, bare face teamed with a bold red lip, working a smoky eye into the look just adds glamour. The trick to not over-doing the look is keeping your skin simple and your eyebrows well-kept.
If you wear lipstick, you have to wear lip liner
Tracing your lips with a liner can add definition to lips, but when your lippy wears off, it only leaves an unattractive outline. Instead, use the liner to colour your lips before applying lipstick to make it stay on for longer.
