Get Glowing Skin

Exfoliation is the key to glowing skin because your complexion looks radiant when it’s smooth and reflects light. Exfoliation removes the dead skin cells that pile up which diffuses light and makes your skin appear dull. When you’ve got a choice, exfoliate in the evening to remove the debris from the day as well. There IS such a thing as over-exfoliation though, which simply leads to irritated skin, so limit your exfoliation to twice a week to avoid any problems.

A weekly glycolic acid peel will work with your exfoliation efforts to deeply cleanse and nourish the skin. Avoid alcohol and caffeine when possible and you’re well on your way to a natural glow.

The low-down on growing healthy nails

Having healthy hair, nails, and glowing skin are a sure sign of a healthy person. These are things we all strive for in our own lives. Here are a few tips you can keep in mind if you’re trying to grow healthier nails.

Obviously if you’re a nail biter the first step will be to kick that habit to the curb-for good. Otherwise, the key to healthy nails begins with a healthy diet. Healthy fats found in nuts and avocados are great. Be sure to moisturise daily and use a cuticle cream once a week at least. Filing your nails appropriately is a must to allow them to grow their healthiest. Never file back and forth, instead file each side toward the center only ever working in that direction.

Correct application of acne medication

While it may sound silly, there is actually a bit of science behind the correct application of acne medication. The order in which you apply your skincare and beauty products makes quite a difference in their overall effectiveness.

Use a gentle face wash. There is no need to assault your face with a heavily medicated face wash AND an acne cream. This will simply result in redness, irritation, and overly dry skin.

Apply your moisturizer BEFORE the acne medication. The moisturizer doesn’t inhibit the medication from working, but it does help ensure you don’t suffer any side effects like puffiness or redness after applying the acne cream.

Don’t ever use more than a pea sized amount at a time. Acne is frustrating, and we all want it gone as quickly as possible. Slathering on the creams and medications will usually have the opposite of your desired effect, so sticking to a light, gentle application is best.

Skincare in your 40’s

If you’re in your 40’s you might have noticed the body goes through some major hormonal changes that can impact your hair and skin. Skin tends to lose collage and elastin at this age making it appear drier, and thinner. Because of this, lines and wrinkles look deeper. Clearly your 40’s are a wonderful time to make a few positive changes in your beauty routine to help work with these natural changes.

Find a facial cleanser with lactic acid in it to exfoliate and remove dead skin cells. Your skin will feel hydrated and brighter afterwards!

Uneven skin tone and sun spots often wait until you’re in your 40’s to pop up. Products with Vitamin C or hydroquinone will both aid in decreasing this hyperpigmentation and have anti-inflammatory properties as well.

If you’re not already, include a product with retinol in it. Retinol is the key anti-aging ingredient derived from vitamin A to encourage a youthful and radiant complexion.

Beauty Myth Debunked

We’ve all heard the myth that if you shave unwanted hair, it will only grow back darker and potentially thicker. Turns out, that’s not true.

You hair grows widest at the base, narrowest at the tip. So when you shave a hair, it’s being cut at the base. Therefore the widest part grows out, making the hair appear thicker.

Benefits of lemon water

A glass of warm lemon water each morning could be the daily boost you’re looking for.  The lemon boost your system, and aids in digestion. A glass of lemon water has less than 25 calories and is a rich source of nutrients like calcium, vitamin C, and potassium.

Lemon is extremely beneficial to the skin, and helps you glow from within. Lemon can help prevent the formation of wrinkles, and also helps your body to flush out toxins.

By incorporating a glass of lemon water into your morning routine (best digest before coffee or tea) you’ll be taking a giant step towards better overall health.

Skincare in your 30’s

Your thirties are when fine lines, laugh lines, and wrinkles really being to appear for most people. Using an overnight cream with retinols becomes important. If you can find a face cream with active vitamin A and C- all the better.

Avoiding any further skin damage from the sun is crucial in your thirties, and a moisturiser with a daily SPF is non-negotiable at this point in your life especially.

Tips to avoid aged looking skin

Ageing skin is inevitable. We all do our best to prevent or delay the look of aging skin, and today we’ve rounded up a few makeup related tips and tricks to stash up your sleeve for the day you’ll need them.

*Avoid thick foundation as it will only age you. Try a mousse based cream which will remain light and airy after application.
*Avoid face powders on fine lines, it will simply settle in and make things appear worse.
*Place your blush at the highest point of your cheekbones to give you the most natural looking flush.

*Trace your lipstick with a clear lip liner to help avoid lipstick bleed which occurs more often as our lips age and loose a bit of definition.
