Smart Snacking

Snacking is often the downfall to any diet or eating plan one might have set up. Snacks seem to be the easiest way to derail an otherwise good eating day. So having good snacking options ready and in mind are key to curbing your hunger in a healthy way.

Have you ever tried kale chips? Sure, they’re green and perhaps a little odd looking. But they’re healthy, nutritious, and downright delicious!

Kale Chips

1 bunch of any kind of kale
1 TBS Vinegar (apple cider, white, etc.)
3 TBS olive oil
Sea salt

Preheat oven to 150 C.

Wash kale and tear leaves into bite sized pieces. Discard stems. Dry in salad spinner or on a towel.

Combine olive oil and vinegar in a small bowl and pour over kale. Use hands to gently coat the kale with dressing.

Spread a single layer on baking sheet, sprinkle with sea salt and bake for 10-15 minutes. Flip leaves once during cooking. Cool enough to eat and enjoy!

Treating scars

Scars, like the accidents that often cause them, aren’t intentional. Many of us with scars would love nothing more than to do something that could help them fade or look less apparent. Turns out, there are a few things that experts believe truly do make a difference.

Sunscreen can help minimize the appearance of scars and protect them from hyperpigmentation. Use SPF 30 or higher, and use a sunscreen with zinc to block UVA & UVB rays.

Microderm or dermabrasion treatments can help reduce the appearance of different types of scars. It’s best to speak with an expert to learn the best treatment for your scar type.

Lotions with vitamin E or cocoa butter are extra nourishing to your skin. If you’ve got an injury that’s scabbed but not scarred, use petroleum jelly to keep it moistened and avoid itching.

Scar reducing creams and patches work to create an ideal environment for skin re-growth and a varied amount of success has been found with these products. Of course, for a temporary fix, you can turn to every gal’s pal. The tube of concealer.

Date Night 101

If you’re headed out for a first date your nerves might be high already. Lessen your own stress by packing a few date night essentials that will have your back, no matter how the evening unfolds.

A lip color that stays. Pretty self explanatory, if you start the evening with lipstick on, it’s sure nice to end the same way. Most lipsticks aren’t known for their lasting power, so do your research and find what works for you.

A mirror. Pack a double punch by using a mirror in your foundation compact. Then you’ve got both at hand at a moment’s notice for a quick glance or touch up opportunity.

Travel sized perfume. A little spritz mid-way through the evening will give your confidence a boost.

Blotting papers. In case you get a little oily, these will help you blot it away in an instant.

Concealer. Just in case. Cause you’d rather not be caught without it, right?

Breath mints. Hello. This is a date ;)

Every girl can walk into her next date with a little extra confidence in her step knowing she’s got these perfect side-kicks stored in her purse-just in case.

Does your nail color say something about you?

Going to the salon to get your nails done is a relaxing experience for most. We leave feeling pampered, refreshed, and pretty! Did you know you were making a statement each time you select your new mani color? Some say that the nail color you choose speaks volumes about who you truly are. Here’s the color breakdown:

If you choose a bold color: you’re confident, and not afraid to be the center of attention. Women wearing bold colors generally know what they want, and aren’t afraid to admit it.

Subtle toned hue:  down to earth, natural, and soft. An ‘easy going’ personality.

Neon/funky colors: a free spirit, you’re full of fun and whimsy. Letting your playful side show is just the beginning of the adventures that await.

Glittered & glitzed: you’re festive and social. You’re all about making memories with those you love- as you realize those moments of laughter and fun are the true gems of life.

Battling under-eye bags

They come from many causes, sleep deprivation, genetic inheritance, or just a long rough night, but at one time or another we’ve all had a few dark under eye circles hang around. Dark under-eye circles have the ability to age even the youngest face, which is why they’re one of the top woes in the beauty world to this day.

The skin under and around our eyes is the thinnest skin on the body. This also means that it’s transparent enough for the blood vessels to show through.

Avoiding alcohol and cigarettes are always a great bet when it comes to your skin health, and avoiding under-eye circles is no exception. If you’re looking for an under eye cream be sure to look for one containing caffeine because it constricts the blood vessels under your eye.

If you’re wanting to cover them with concealer, look for one in an apricot tone that is a shade lighter than the color your skin tone. The yellow tone of the concealer works to cancel out the purple under the eye. Ensure you use a concealer with a creamy texture, avoid powder as it simply settles into the fine lines around your eyes-making things worse.
