Foods that Protect from the Sun

Protecting your skin and hair from the damages of the sun is a #1 priority, especially in the summer! We're all about using physical barriers to protect yourself: sun block, cover ups, large hats, and more! But protecting yourself from the inside is just as important. Keeping your body healthy, happy, and nourished is half the battle when it comes to warding off exterior factors. Here are some foods to focus on that will help your body protect itself from the damaging rays of the sun. 

Fish - rich in Omega 3's

Red & Orange Fruits and Veggies (tomato, red/orange peppers) - high in lycopene

Dark Chocolate- thank you flavanoids! 

Cruciferous veggies (Broccoli, cauliflower, kale)- packed full of essential antioxidants 

Greens (Spinach, bok choy, collard, swiss chard, herbs)- antioxidants and polyphenols 

Hot Tea (Green & Black teas)- powerful polyphenols

Well here's a silver lining for you- you should only be shopping for products based on your skin type- and knowing what those products are can save you a lot of time, stress, and hassle. You'll be able to quickly eliminate certain products, and narrow down your focus on things that are already recommended to work with your skin. 

If you have oily skin: Choose a matte gel moisturiser instead of a cream based one. This step can help save you from suffering from an oily face mid way through the day.  

Avoid products that include any shimmer or glitter. Always opt for matte instead.

If you have dry skin: A cream based moisturiser will impart enough hydration to keep your skin happy and itch free for the entire work day. Just like those with oily skin, avoiding shimmer and glitter is recommended. Those prone to dry skin are often prone to sensitivities and irritations as well and glitter or shimmer are more likely to rock the boat than anything else.
